You can catch flathead on hot dogs, but you are better off using live bait for flatties. I normally use live shad or black perch.

    HOT DOGS!
    You bet!
I soak mine in garlic powder, sardine oil(I eat the sardines),vinegar, and grape jelly.
Use a zip lock bag and just cut them to hook size peices.
    TRY IT YOU"LL LIKE IT!!!!

Not sure how well they will work, but have some made up! I got this recipe out of the Arkansas Sportsman magazine.

    Kool-aid Franks

    Ingredients needed

2 pkgs sugar free strawberry kool-ad
    2 tbsp minced garlic
couple pkgs of chicken flavored hot dogs
    water

    Directions
Cut your hot dogs into 1 inch chunks. Put into a quart jar.
Add 2 tbsp of minced garlic
    Add 2 pkgs strawberry kool-aid
    Fill jar up with water
    Marinate overnight

Makes for a great Bait or Midnight snack! <----According to the Magazine!

I like the idea of soaking the hot dogs in yucky stuff. Reduces the risk of me eating up all my bait. Thanks for the ideas.

Not sure about flatheads but for channel they do work. As a matter of fact this past Sunday we where fishing no one was catching anything. We had a small BBQ going also. My friend dropped a piece of hot dog onto the floor. I took a piece placed on a hook and within one minute bam the first catfish of the day. Normally I would of thought of this sooner but we had extra guest show up and not enough food to go around so I couldnt justify using it as bait at that moment.

I know people have caught flatties on hotdogs, but live bait will outfish them any day. Now for channels they work fine.
