i have a 1985 evinrude 88spl motor how can i get max hpr and still save on gas.:confused2:
i have a 115 hp johnson and i put a whale tail on it and it does save gas and when you get it up on plane just back out of the throttle a little and that helps some to
Keep it tuned good add a jack plate to get it up in the x zone good and put a cupped prop to turn at you max RPM's and then run it at 10% below max.
You want answaer?
I'll give ANSWERS........
shave the heads, up the compression,
add 1 3/8" carbs,
remove the choke flaps to increase the air flow,
or get "MAD EFI",
lighten up the flywheel,
advance the timming,
ballance the connecting rods,
remove the rev limeter,
do a LOT of die grinder work inside of the intake and crank case to smooth out the casting burs to help out air flow,
match up the steel cyl sleeve with the block casting,
dry stack the exhaust,
raise the ports to 140 specks,
add a low water pick up"wont add hp" but will let ya run the motor higher,
there are just a few answers fer ya,,,,
not much to help on saving gas tho
Road kill I don't think that would even be close to useing his orignal engine. I could have given that answer but it wasn't what he asked. But a darn good breakdown of getting the most out of those v4 blocks
I never thought of that. New requirement for anyone riding in my boat is you must shave your head! Wind blowing through all that hair is killing my fuel economy.
I did all that to my 9.9 mercury,it dynos at 200 hp nowoooh:oooh::smile2::smile2:
2 weekends ago I seen Hydo planes with 500 cc motors that put out 160 hp,,,,,,,125mph on a lake oval,,,,,,they were just a gitting it.
