I know that this has been ask by members here before :0a14::embarassed:, but I would like to hear it or get everone's advice on in again because I know that they are getting the Channels here on the Minnows & I know that I will using the Bluegills in the spring.
    But
What's the best way to keep them alive longer after hooking them?
    :confused2:

    Thanks Gang,

When I use Bluegills and Minnows I hook them in the middle.

i hook my gills and sunnies near the lower tail section behind the anal fin, making sure not to hit the spin, that seems ta keep my bait swimming up off the bottom and alive longer

If I'm using a single hook, which I usually do, I hook between the vent and tail. Then when you set the hook it will clear the bait and hopefully get the cat. If you hook them through the nose, mouth or under the top fin, you risk pulling your hook back into the bait; missing the catfish. With a treble hook it probably doesn't matter where you hook the bait. Just miss the spine and brain.

I've noticed that the big circle hooks tend to kill bait quicker than Kahles. I use King Kahles and hook bluegills behind the dorsal fin towards the tail.

what circle hook did you use? did you try gammi circles? they're a lighter wire than most.
