here is a little background about me. I fished the potomac for catfish 8 yrs ago for quite some time, and it was a blast. I stopped for a few years and then I started fishing the bay this year on my jetski. I havent been out to the bay a lot lately because it's always windy when i have time to go out. I realized i am right next to the potomac river and why not give it a try.

When i launch at gravelly point in DC, should i go up to Fletcher Boat house and look around? Can i find those big cat around? or should i go down south?

You can catch those big cats right there where you launch or anywhere in that stretch of water from Fletchers down. Find the channel and drop your bait....and hang on!

BTW...I've always wondered if anyone fished off of their Jetski...and special mods you've done to your rig to make it more "fish friendly"? Would love to see pics.

Tight lines.

If you want to see a fully modified version check out jetskibrian on the tidal fish site. This guy is fishing offshore and has more equipment on his jetski than most of us have on our boats. It shows you that deep pockets and wish to fish you can get anything done.

SCORE!!!!!!! i guess i will just drift along the current. From what i have been reading on here, live bait is the real deal to the big cat. so catch bluegills first, and live line them? when i am doing livelining, weight or no weight?

I have my rig pics attached down below. I have a livewell cooler setup in the back with 4 rods holder. Last pic is just my gf with the jet ski. :) this is just a temp setup, i have a cooler rack coming from someone soon, and it will bolt right on. I can take everything off in less than a min. Nice rig! As for the bait, any fresh fish will do. Most people use Gizzard Shad but Bluegills or White Perch will work also. For the really big fish (30 lb +) most folks use cut bait, as big as you can cast. You really can't put a bait in the water that's too big. Live bait will work too but you need to put it on the bottom where the big ones live. Use enough weight to keep your bait on the bottom...I usually use 2.5 ounce weights. Keep in mind that you will need stout gear if you don't want to spend all day landing one...and when you do, please take a picture and release it. They're not good to eat so why kill it? If you're after smaller fish to eat, just downsize your bait and you'll be in the thick of them in no time. Good luck.

thank you sir, i guess it's a test/trial thing. All my gears do fine in the bay, so i should be good in the river also. It will be a C&R for me since i don't eat anything from the Potomac river anymore(DC area). The water is so disgusting/dirty..........

prepare for my massive reports this summer :) say hi if you ever see me out there with the jetski
