Pain keeps me up alot at nights. So I aways have to find something to do.
Well was cleaning out one of my fishing bags last night and found a 50 pack of 7/0 J-style Mustad hooks. Shanks are pretty thick, so I decided to play around with em'.

Bent the eye back at a 45* angle. Made a mark on the shank 1 3/16" below the bend of the eye. Placed my vise grips on the mark and bent the hook there with my needle nose. Now I'm real curious how they'll perform. They are not quite a sickle, not quite a circle, and not quite a kahle. Maybe a combination of all 3. Snelled up a dozen of em' just to see what kind of hook up ratio I get with em'. One never knows... Let me know what you all think...

Looks like it'd be a good hook if you let the fish set it. If you try to cross it's eyes, you might pull it out of his mouth.

Good idea Bobby, The only modifcations I have ever tried, have been by accident. lol. Usually a big snag, and a nasty bend after words, does that count?:smile2: rollo

Well got out today and tied on one of my modified hooks to see how they would perform. Baited it up and tossed it out. Shortly after that this 26 1/2" just under 9 lb. channel grabbed the bait and took off. Fish was hooked instantly, right in the corner. Could'nt have been any better. So I'd have to say that I am very pleased so far at how they perform. Gonna continue to use them over the next few weeks, and will keep you guys posted of the results...

That's a nice looking channel Bobby!

The hooks look good, my only concern would be if by bending the hooks you are taking strength out of them, making them easier to bend when you have a nice fish on.

Brandon, These hooks are tough. They are only bent slightly, and I am unable to straighten em' out by hand. If they were thinner that would be a problem. Just ask "Kip" he grabbed that fish when I brought it in and removed the hook. I'm sure he'll attest for thier strength.
