    Hey Folks,

Here's a design I just came up with to convert a no-roll slip sinker into a CLAW.

I am hoping this might help in those situations where you are losing a lot of lead to Rip Rap.

Claws themselves are by no means my idea. But wanted to make one with the current sinkers I have the molds for.

I took an 8 oz. no-roll slip sinker and drilled it out to 1/8" all the way through. I then drilled partially through the bottom with a 3/16" drill bit.

For the eye I used a 1/16" tig welding rod wrapped around a 16 penny nail to form the eye. Both straight ends were then stuck through the weight.
I added two additional short pieces of welding rod in the bottom of the weight.

Then I fluxed it and soldered the wires to each other, also filling the hole.

Then you simply spread the wires and TA-DA claw sinker!!!!!

The theory is that these wires will catch in the rocks, then the wires will bend when you pull it and you get your rig back. HOPEFULLY.

Cheap and easy to make. Help me test it out or feel free to modify or simplify this design.

Darryl looks like a heck of an idea I was thinking you could even use the same idea with large egg sinkers.

That is a good sinker and one heck of an idea. I have a mold for claw sinkers, and I have found it works a whole lot better to have six wires come out of it instead of four. In the tailraces I fished, the four legs would not find anything to hold on, or the current would wash it over the rock. Six legs gave me a lot better hook-up range.

Darryl, that looks like it should work fine to me. We have a bank sinker mold that we drilled out one of the end cavities rigt in the bottom of the sinker. I have cousins that are electricians and they save me some left over 12/2 wire and that is what we use. We slide 4 wires into the bottom of the mold then pour 2 regular and 1 wire sinker each time. bend the wires to resemble a trebble and your in buisness. Just remember you need to be using 40 lb. or larger line in order for it to be stout enough to hold in strong current and still hold to allow the fish or you to jerk the wire loose without breaking the line. You will still lose some lead but you will get the rig back more often than you would think.
