    Here is one version Venita.

    HOMEMADE BANANA PUDDING

    1-1/4 cups sugar
    1/2 cup flour
    Pinch of salt
3 lg. egg yolks, beaten (save the whites for meringue)
    3 cups sweet milk
    1 tsp. vanilla
    4 or 5 lg. bananas
    1 box vanilla wafers

Using either a heavy bottom saucepan or cooking in the top of double boiler, combine sugar, salt and flour. Stir in egg yolks and gradually add milk. Cook, stirring constantly over medium heat until mixture becomes slightly thickened. Should coat the back of spoon. Remove from heat, stir in vanilla, and set aside.
Line the bottom of a glass baking dish with vanilla wafers. Add a layer of sliced bananas. Spoon a layer of pudding over wafers and bananas. Repeat layers. If using meringue end with pudding. If not using meringue top pudding with some crushed vanilla wafers for a nice look.

    MERINGUE:

    3 egg whites
1/2 to 3/4 cup sugar (To taste)
    Pinch of salt
    Dash of vanilla

Meringue: Beat whites until they start to stiffen. Gradually add sugar and salt , then vanilla. Beat until stiff enough to hold formed peaks. Top pudding with meringue and brown under oven broiler.
