hit by flying carp

On our way to my favorie hole on the mississippi,a 20 pound fying carp flew out of the water at tremedous velocity, heading straight for the side of my head. I seen it ,out of the corner of my eye, just in time, and managed to block the slimey Kamikaze pilot with my elbow The big fellow tried to flop back out but I was too fast for him. In a instant I was all over him with the BIG knife. A couple of stabs through the head and he was in the bait bucket :)

I never knew carp were so aggressive. Maybe that was supposed to be payback.
It's not our regular carp doing all this jumping and flying. It's imported asian carp called the silver and big headed carp.
They go nuts whenever they're spooked and can jump 8-10 feet out of the water and hit you or land in your boat. They're a big danger to everyone on the water including folks on jetfleas and water skiers especially since they get so big.
The silver carp easily grows to 60 lbs and the big head carp gets to 100 lbs. If one or more of these critters spooks and jumps while you're zooming down the river and hits you he can injure you pretty badly and possibly even kill you.
Another bad thing is that all they eat is tons of plankton which the food chain of any river depends on so they're already starting to affect the game fish populations of the rivers they've invaded.
The only bright side to all this bad news is that they're extremely good to eat.

Wow! Patrick, you are my new hero! Just like Indiana Jones, hehe. That'll teach them carp to stay in the water where they belong.
We have those in the Kansas River. A local radio DJ went out on a Jetski and tried to get hit by them.
well they make great cut bait thats about all
ya. guessing it was an asian. if not a 20 # carp makes good scored fillets. :p
You were lucky! There have been several boaters killed by those dang things the last few years!
yeah those suckers a crazy. real bad in the Illinois river too. Everyone need to keep a Louisville slugger on the bow of the boat ang just go to town.
holey flying carp. Perch Jerkers Beware aka Bass Fishermen 20 lbs of fish at 50 miles an hour equals big problems.
That happened to a friend of mine on a creek. It hit him dead square in the chest and knocked the air out of him. He didn't know what kind of fish it was so he took it to a local biologist to have him identify it. I can't remember what it was though.

Amen! Getting whacked by a 20lb anything whilst blasting along the waterway will surely leave a mark. What next? Almost afraid to ask...
Those asian carp are thick in my parts. Just about everytime on the water one manages to get into the boat. Here the law says they must be killed immeadiatley. They really aren't good for the river system.

I haven't had the honor, nor heard of anyone in this area that has and we have a lot of waverunners and water skiers when the water is up more than it is presently... not that I'm griping...
My hero, what a guy!! Great vision, super reflexes, quick with the shaft of steel. Will you share that bait, please??
Wasn't there a beer commercial similar to that story
