This weekend i was lucky enough to harvest one of the biggest deer I've ever seen up close. The morning started out with plenty of action. Saw two good bucks, one was atleast 20 inches wide. But since i took the scope off of my rifle i wasnt going to try a shot. The morning slowed down and me and my buddy (filmer) decided to do some stalks. With little success we decided to go and look for grandpa. We found him at the end of this one draw and he said he saw a big ole buck run into a draw behind him. I know this draw, those deer sit in there during rifle season because its about 20 feet deep and hard to see into but easy to see out of. So we start walkin, I tell my buddy to keep the camera ready because i had a feeling that deer would jump out before long. Sure enough, 5 minutes after we started walking i see a brown mass rise out of the brush.. 20 yards away. It's that buck. Big deer, at the time i guessed 130. i pulled the hammer back one my 30-30 and he bolted. He hurdled a fallen tree within 2 steps while i was bringing up ole iron sights and boom, dead before he hit the ground. the deer is a 5x4 with a few kickers making him 11 points. we rough scored him at 127 and he weighed about 200 pounds and damn was i proud. We gutted him and since he was my first mature buck i took a bite out of his heart to celebrate. Got that part on film. Well after all the hoopin and hollerin we got him back to the truck and checked him and right now hes at the taxidermist and i should have him by august. The taxidermist likes to take his time, itll set me back about 450 but itll be worth it.
