I've got an older 5.5 hp Evinrude that I was on the river with the other day. Engine started and ran fine with the choke pulled but when I put the choke in the engine would die. I could put it part way in the engine would pick up but eventually die. I was able to run it with the choke out for quite awhile but it never got to the point where I could push it in. Any suggestions?

Jim your engine is starving for fuel. I would suspect that the carb is dirty. I would begin by checking the fuel system from the tank to the carb for air leaks. If you have a pin hole some where inthe system then it will act the same way.
