    Hi,

Was outside practice casting with my Abu Ambassador 5500-C3, after the 9th cast I heard what was a "pop" and realized that I can no longer retrieve the line without a bad grinding noise.

Probably not the best idea on my part, as it's been awhile since it's been used. Anyone have an idea what it could be? I am in the process of disassembling it right now, noticed this link...

Bummer, it's 10-12 years old but never really been fished that much. I will try calling their customer service assuming it's just not dust accumulated in there (which I seriously doubt). It has seen most of it's time inside my house, which with hardwood floors accumulates quite a bit of dust although I can't imagine it getting into the gears and what not.

Sounds like the pawl may have broke and grinding the worm gear?:confused2:
I'm no expert but that could be the problem. Cheap and easy enough to fix.

    Just to update,

I took it apart (probably not my best move) saw where the spring was and it was not attatched, although it wasn't broken. I played with it for a minute, now it reels but when I hit the button to release the "bail" or line it won't fall.

It sounds like you have your reel brake to tight.
