I know some of you guys are pros at estimating a catfishes weight. And I am curious if you could tell what you think this cat I caught a long time ago weighed. The scale I had maxed at 50 but it was a cheap 5 Big Lots scale and I would love to know.So get the calculators out please.

That flathead looks to be around 40 inches so my guess would be 35 to 40 lbs.

I read this on a site for big game fish and found it to be within a few lbs, girth squared x length /800= weight ex: girth is 24" 24x24=576x length 36"=20736/800=25.92lbs. It works out pretty good, good luck Jeff

I have always sucked using fractions and my mind is not thinking today.Measurements are the following

Mt Dew 24oz in picture is 1 3/8 inches long=real life 9 1/2 inches long
Flathead length in picture 7 1/2 inches long
Middle section 1 1/4 inches tall.

    Hope this helps.

I have tested the LxGxG/800 formula on some flatheads (I think I can trust my scale - I have tested it, too) and it seems to overestimate flatheads slightly.

Based on your measurements of the can and the fish in the picture, thast leadsd to a length of the fish of almost 52 inches. If the can is behind the fish, though, then that would make it a little less. Anway, a 50 inch flathead would be around 55 pounds, give or take 10 pounds.

Just messign around with guesses, but it's a real nice fish anyway. Just go catch him again and get some good measurements this time!

I agree with everyone else if I had to guess I would say it was between 40 and 50 pounds, even thought didnt get to weight it it was still a nice looking fish.
