I use 15# spiderwire on my crappie rods, it is the same size as 4# mono. I have used up to 10# mono with some success, but like the smaller diameter lines. The reason I went to the braids is I can get my jigs out of the brush when hung up. I just have to straighten the hook out rebend it and start fishing again. Crappie can be extremely line shy.

I was gonna say there probably were some on the board that used 50 lb. power-pro, and then, here came Phil. He beat me to it. LOL

When I crappie fish here in Georgia I use a cheap zebco 33 rod and reel combo. With what ever is the cheapest 8 pound test on sale. Yeah you might hang a bass or even a cat fish, but your fishing for crappie right! Try to reel those bigger fish in, but if it brakes the line, tie on a new hook and start fishing agian! Crappie fishing is a lot of fun and good eats!!!!!:smile2:
