I HAVE HEARD (FOR BLUEGILL ANYWAYS) THAT if u use a fly that has legs over like 3/4 inch that sometimes the gill will nip at the legs and not the fly..

i cut mine down to 1/2" from the fly body.... never had a problem with gills nipping at the legs :)

    just a heads up

I had some flies I've tied with long legs that almost never catch anything because the perch hit the legs.

I agree. I always trim the legs on my poppers and foam spiders. They cast better with the legs trimmed too.

Hey thanks! I was just having that problem too! Poppers with the legs are deadly in these parts lately! Good post!

And yet another great idea for the frustrated fly fisherman. This kind of post is why the BOC is such a great site. Thanks for the heads-up.
