well me and my dad(mo.hick) are headed to truman the second weekend of may for a couple days of crappie and catfish fishing.we've never really fished lakes for catfish, mostly the missouri river.if we cant find any shad we plan on shooting a few carp for bait.when fishing lakes for catfish should we fish it like we fish the river, look for deep holes, stay close to structure, etc. or should we take a different approach? any info is greatly appreciated thanks. oh by the way we are going to be on the osage arm by osceola.

You won't have any trouble finding shad. Just go up into any cove they were thick a couple weeks ago. Good luck. give us a report when you get back.

Hey you could come by the Mo Gathering at Raccoon Ridge campground. 16,17 and 18th of May. Its gonna be a good time.

    MISSOURI IV 2008 Gathering May 16th, 17th, 18th.
    Missouri IV 2008 Gathering...MAY 16th, 17th and 18th.

Well ladies and gentleman I see we have gained quite a few new Missouri members this year and it's time for us to plan for our 2008 Gathering.

We have had a Mo. Gathering at Truman Lake the last 3 years with increased members each time attending, we should have a record turn out in 2008 making it our biggest and best yet....

Our last two Gatherings were located in the Harry S. Truman state park in the Racoon Ridge camp area and it seemed to be a perfect place for everyone. We had a lot of the area reserved for camping but it is big enough to accomodate more as we grow in attendance.

2006-2007 events were held on the 3rd week end of May. This seemed to work well for everyone with mothers day the week end before and memorial wk. end the week after the Gathering.
So we decided to keep the dates the same each year so everyone knows when to plan for it.

So lets hear from all the Missouri members and any other members from the other states ( we had members from many states attend in 2006 and 2007. Thanks guys!) that would like to attend and any ideas on how we can make 2008 our best ever........

The Gathering will be in the RACOON RIDGE Campground in the Harry S. Truman State Park.

Kind of like fishing a river with no current, unless their has been rain , then you probably have current, look for deep holes. and watch your fish finder. mouth of Sac river. is a good place to start, cove at Osceola, good place for shad and their has been crappy come from their in spawn.

    Like storm with no wind,
    government with no waste,
    shad with no scale,
    or fart but no stink.

This grasshopper has much to learn. :tounge_out::smile2:
