I had a thick dowel rod and two thinner ones..I bought the metal screw in holders in the end for 1.50 ..cut the smaller ones 1/2 the length of the big one nailed it on..lashed it then wrapped red electrical tape and then I use a heat gun to shrink the tape.
It can handle a lot of weight! What was neat was that it seems to be self gripping..I took it to the pond out back and tested it...and it is very windy today and set it out with a slip rig with a 2 ounce egg sinker..tightlined it...held real nice, no sway..no rocking.
I found i can pile rocks on it to weigh it down futher..and the legs can be pushed into the dirt for better grip...sturdy and stable little fella.
