    I just got back into fishing last week after taking about 10 years off. I'm running on minimal gear right now and haven't had the extra few bucks to pick up a decent scale.

    Tonight I got a couple nice channels and would like a ballpark estimate if possible so I can tell my friends (they get all lazy and sleep at night :wink:). I'm lousy at guessing on this stuff and thought you guys with a lot more experience may have a good idea.

    For reference I'm 6'4" and around 300lbs. The fish are held just a a little bit away from my chest so i wouldn't get my shirt slimy.

    Thanks for your time,
    Nate

    Nate, IMHO the one on the left in the pic looks like he is around 4.5 to 5lbs and the other 3.5 to 4lbs.

    Thanks for the pics and the post an congrats on the fish.

    Also welcome to the BOC.:cool2::smile2:

    Not to disagree with Shelby, but I would add a pound because you're a big fella.:smile2:
    It is pretty hard to judge with the fish hanging that way, honestly I think channels in general are harder to judge than larger flts & blues. We (I) get accustomed to seeing pics of the fish held a certain way with measured weights associated.
    buy a scale.

    Well I got another pic here but its a pretty bad one, very dark, from my cellphone. Not sure if it will help any. Size 13 shoe in the pic.

    The larger of the two didnt feel a whole lot lighter than a 14lb jug of cat litter we have here. But then again that could be my fishermans imagination working against me. :p

    Well general consensus says I suck at guessing weight. :smile2:

    Thanks for your input everyone. Really need to get a scale before I head out again.
