GPS on the river

    Do any of the gps/depth finders have detailed river maps.

    William, you didn't mention any specific river, but in general the more expensive units come with detailed topo and lake maps, or some units have memory slots so you can buy mapping software and install it, but as for rivers, I don't think there really is much available, except for the larger rivers and harbors that have commercial traffic, and channel markers; say Mississippi, lower James River, etc. The smaller rivers across the nation probably don't justify the expense of detailed mapping, I suppose, and the also tend to change depths and courses frequently. Just my thoughts.
    Take a look at http://ocsdata.ncd.noaa.gov/BookletChart/ and see if there may be something there that will help you. You can also go to the websites of some of the mapping software suppliers (such as Navionics, Fishing Hot Spots, etc) and see what is available.
