I caught about a 30 lb.er a few weeks ago. I managed to get it in without a steel leader somehow. They're fun to catch, bit not much fun to take off the hook

Wish I could get a 30# long-nose gar. Missouri state record is only 27#. I've seen plenty where I fish, but they just don't seem to bite much.

I caught one on a limb line that was near 6 foot long, it had the nylon line wrapped all around it's mouth and stuck in it's teeth. Don't know how much it weighed, but it was the largest Gar I've ever seen. pulled it up out of the water and stood up in the boat holding the thing level with me only to have it's tail still in the water.....SCARRY!

I think they have been robbing me blind. I caught a 3 foot one by luck. He spit the hook out while I was looking for pliers. Slithered about 8 feet back to the water like a snake. If they are going to take my bait I might as well land a few. How about those tricks and bait ideas. I fish the Great Miami around the cincy hamilton area. I have seen some big dead ones on the bank I would have liked to fight.Any help would be great. thanks
