Well, according to our governor, it's official. Google has signed a deal to open a data center in Lenoir, NC (about 18 miles from me). It will be located on a 200-plus acre tract on Virginia Street. I lived (with my parents of course) on Virginia street from my birth until I was almost four years old - never heard 'em talk about it on the news before . The new Google facility is supposed to provide around 212 jobs, which might help some of the textile/furniture workers who've lost their jobs due to plant closings in the last few years. The average yearly income for the folks who are hired will be $48,000. I've heard they have excellent benefits also. GO GOOGLE!!!
