make sure you're fishin waters that hold what you're looking for.....throw out some live bluegill w/ maybe some cut mixed in......be quiet and patient....and hang on!

Congratulatoins! Now you are going to be fishing for real fish lol.

Take a look at your states section on this forum and read back posts to see if anyone has had discussions about your particular body of water.

Bluegill sound like a good choice but I'm not sure about minnows.. unless they are bigguns.

I don't know what your area has but Bullheads and SkipJack are also favorite baits over in your end of the country.

There are some BIG flatheads there... use a big live bluegill on a big hook. There are some monsters around swift creek.

You'll get addicted man.. something special about having a 1/4 pd bluegill on a hook and something is eating it.
Listen to the BOC but don't get too stuck to the rules. Sometimes you have to go outside of the advice to find what works in your area. Target structure if you can Both shallow and deep. Think about where those bluegill hide when the sun goes down. I suggest in the begining fishing a bluegill head on one pole and a live one on another pole. Cut the head at an angle so the guts are hanging off the back of the head. I generally get my first flat on the head and my largest on the live later in the night.
Main thing though.. keep a line in the water.
