Going to my buddies house to mold some sinkers this weekend for first time. It should be a good time trying out his different molds.
Ray.... I was wondering what you are using as a melt furnace....?my no-rolls are 3-4-5oz and the pyramids are 1,1-1/2,2,2-1/2,3oz flat bank sinkers are 2-3-4oz
eggs sinkers 1/8oz to 3oz, 6-8-16oz torpedo's and 1lb cannonball and 2lb rock cod for deep sea fishing.
Thanks for the reply RAY......long time no see....Wow..... I hope you dont cook food in the fryer after doing the lead?well ray, to melt down my bulk lead(wheel weights and such) i use a turkey fryer burner and i have the coolest giant ladle will pour and skim at the same time, it has an opening inside the bottom of the ladle and runs up the side so you pour from the bottom, and it will hold a good 35LB of wheel weights at a time, after i clean the lead i will our into 1/2lb to 2lb ingots that will fit in my Lee production pot. Let me know if you need to use some of my molds.
No it is a old extra turkey fryer burner i use, wont eat out of it!!!!Thanks for the reply RAY......long time no see....Wow..... I hope you dont cook food in the fryer after doing the lead?
Sounds like you have a production machine.....Thats nice that the ladle has the spout as you mentioned....
AH? Now I hear ya..... got the Lee pot as well....
I just have some old linotype bars of lead that will last me a life time....LOL
Thanks ahead of time on the use of molds.... I may have to meet ya at Isabella and have a sinker party..
Send me your address on a PM.... got a package to send ya.....
I made quite a few, but none for sturgeon, dont have the mold. What up bro so how many sinker did you make did you make some for sturgeon fishing
as of right now i am not 100% on whether i will be able to attend the sturgeon trip, my plate is full right now, too may trips not enough time!!!How u been I know russ been making weights too r u coningbto the strugeon trip
What does your strugeon sinker look like...... ??I made quite a few, but none for sturgeon, dont have the mold.
No.... but I do have some big "rock cod" sinkers..... I guess that.... what you are saying is that you need some extra weight on there for the Sacramento current....Most of the sturgeon sinkers we use are 8-10 oz. you have any molds that big?
Yea, the ol Sacramento current is pretty fast. sometimes we use 10 oz and that still will not hold.No.... but I do have some big "rock cod" sinkers..... I guess that.... what you are saying is that you need some extra weight on there for the Sacramento current....
I was going to get a 2 oz lead head jig mold... thought that I might borrow one of Ray's big sinker molds.... we'd poor some weights at Isabella when we "hook up"....???
sounds nice Ray, I cant wait for the pics.I made a ingot mold today.....
I used a length of 1" id alum tube and split it in half length ways with a band saw... then cut them to a 5 inch length, and had my buddy Steve weld them together....
The next step was to make end caps and so I had to go to another shop .... friends of mine... and I put a "relief" angle on the ends of the mold to facilitate the removal...
Got is all welded up and we were ready to check it out.....
The pouring process went nice... with a melt pot that I modified for the pouring.... with a full pot.... it makes 4 ingots...
Put 4 of the ingots in the melt furnace.... melted it down and made some more 1- 2 oz sinkers from my 4 oz pyramid sinker mold....
My buddy Steve asked about a parting agent... for easy removal from the ingot mold.... I said use some carbon black from the torch.... boy that stuff works good....
Got some pic of the ingot mold .........show tomorrow when I take em...
