Well I am hitting the dam this week on the Ohio and since my last visit there ended up with me getting a big skunkaroo, I thought why fight nature just fish for whats there...the nasty gar! Now I know what you are thinking...why would someone who enjoys fishing for stripers and cats go after a trash fish like a gar? Well for starters, who started the rumor that they are trash fish?(probably bass fisherman with expensive nitros..) by the looks of them I figure they were probably the first fish God put on this earth so that makes it fair game in my book:smile2:. But on the off chance that I decide to fish for more noble fish like our friend the blue cat, does anyone have any good tips or advice for markland? I really do enjoy getting out and fishing but always coming back tired and fishless is getting old....

    Brother,

I'm with ya. My wife and I have been skunked the last several times out. I'm gonna watch this post to see if I can pick up some pointers!

I actually had some luck drifting in 25-35 ft of water with live shad. Caught 4 with the biggest being a 10 lb blue. Things are slow right now with the river being lazy and warm so look deep, thats what I did.

the gar their selfs are mighty tastey and most of the time fight better than a stripe or a cat. but good luck on your quest maybe this trip wont end up with an empty cooler.

Gar is a really good eating fish. You should try one sometime...
