Goldfish and carp are in the same family but, Goldfish don't grow to large. You might have seen a koi though.

I've read that goldfish can grow to the size of their tank (pond). My two biggest were 7" and 8". They grew about an inch a year, and they died within 2 days of each other. If fish can have personalites, these two sure did. They would remind me every time that it was time to be fed and loved to tease my dog.

I have a golden channel cat now. He's about 8 1/2" and is a hybrid between a gold fish and a channel cat. He's colored like a gold fish, but has the channel cat looks.

Where did you see the fish?

Probably what you seen was either an orenji muji(solid organ koi) or an orenji ogon(solid orange metallic scaled koi) Koi, goldfish, and carp are in the same family. Solid orange koi and goldfish look a lot alike, although koi get much bigger then goldfish. The picture I have attached is of a goldfish that is by my hand and the two orange fish at the top are koi. The koi on the left is regular finned and the koi on the right is a butterfly koi. All three were born this spring and are about the size of my hand.

Most likely it was a koi. In my opinion koi are nothing but large Goldfish...that with the right colors can cost thousands of dollars!

It is nothing for a large koi to cost $200 to $500.

You might want to give some thought to getting a large net and......

I put a small Goldfish in my pond one day. Never did see it again.
