we have been hooking in to a few carp while trout fishing, so i guess i will be rigging up for them soon! i make a little cut bait concoction for cats out of the carp i catch, 30-40 pounds of bait at a time.
i was wondering if anyone who uses carp for bait on this site does anything special to it, or just uses it straight.
    here's what i do:
1: take the carp and scale it with a stout blade. i use a bowie knife.
2: fillet the carp, and totally separate the skin from the tail.
3: skin the ribs out of the fillet.
4: leaving the skin on, cut the fillet into cubes about 1 or 1 1/2 inches.
5: DON'T RINSE THE MEAT. crush fresh garlic and mix it with 1 inch of cooking oil, then put the carp in the bag.
6: i leave it in the fridge overnight, then put it in the freezer.
the skin on the bait is what keeps it on the hook. the bigger the carp, the tougher the skin. this is a bait you need to keep cold. if it gets too warm, the meat separates from the skin. this is a bait i have caught literally three hundred of cats on in only 2 years. i am just curious of any other ways to improve it!
another idea i had is to cut each carp i catch and bleed them into a bag before i fillet them, then add the blood to a bag of cut bait. they do bleed a lot. i'll keep you posted on that later in the year!
    thanks
