I have a Abu C106 Cardinal Spinning Reel with a 4:8:1 gear ratio, I am wondering will that gear ratio make the reel stronger to pull in big fish? I hae it spool with 20lb mono.

I've got one of those also,, and It seems to do just fine,, the reel seems to be engineered nicely for the intended usage.
It's not a real fast or real slow ratio..
In my 6500's I like to have those in 6.3:1 for a faster retrieval, to keep my terminal rig out of the weeds and rocks, and I can just crank them in, If I'm checking bait or want to cast to a different spot.. If I am trying to bring in a fish, big or small, I mainly use the rod to draw the fish closer, and when I lower the rod, I crank line in,, I don't use the gear ratio to haul the fish in so much, persay.

I use baitcasters, but the rod is mainly what I use to fight the fish..The reel is just something that holds line to me..So the cranking power is not that important..but a good drag is.
