Is this a "good" Garcia? Are they still being made? What would be a good price for one NIB?

I picked up one that was in great condition for $40 on ebay, no box though.
I would say tops of $70 if new in box.
    They are great reels IMO

CC has THE best price at $74.95. I have two of them, and like them fine. Only difference in the TC and the regular 6500 is the 6.3:1 gear ratio.

And the gears are affordable and simple to change? I can have one shipped to my door NIB for 69.00. I only have funds for one dedicated catfish rig, so I need to make sure this is worth it...

Also, does this reel have centrifugal brakes?

No the gears would not be simple to change, uyou would have to completly take the reel apart.

I assume that you are aware that the 6501 series are left handed reels, aren't you? Just thought I would throw that into the equation. The reel would be a good reel at that price,if you are left handed. Just my 2 cents worth.
