I got this baby at a garage sale, set me back $5.00. I had to have it.

Going to put some 60lb Berkley Big Game on it and take it down to the Mississippi river tomorrow.:cool2:

Anybody have a idea how the drag works.

I would imagine the only drag on that old reel is you reverse reeling it .

Interesting reel, don't think i've ever seen one like it. Neat, for five bucks I would have had to have it too!

My GF gave me the stink eye when I bought it. Pfft!

It looks like a free line spool and most likly don't have any type of drag. If it was me I would NOT use it before checking the dates and brand of the reel/rod. You just may have a missing link in a collectors set,and if so it could be priceless to the right person.

I have never seen one like that as well, very nice score.I think I would spool it with about 10 pound test , I would hate to get my fingers caught in that thing.Looks like it would make a good meat grinder as well!!!
Oh well like they say wimps will never be heros.

the drag on that reel is the palm of your hand just like a fly reel lay your palm agenst the side of the spool

It looks like one invented around 1900 by a man in New York for bank fishing. I would have it appraised before I did any thing.

I have seen a few of them around here.I believe they are old river reels and they called them knuckle busters for good reason.

The reel and pole are in real good condition, all joking aside, I thought I would hang it on the wall.

I could see it being a ice fishing set up, no real good way to cast it.
