That's a good fish there. Good eating too if ya keep'em fresh right up until you clean it.

Gar are hard to clean but some of the best tasting fish that you can eat. I think it has the texture of alligator.

Congrats on the flats. Just like the title says when the gar move in it's time to find a new spot to fish unless your using some nice blue gills.

There was this guy fishing one time when i was snaggin and told me he got three walleye and o was like cool and every thing not believing him at all and i was snaggin and threw my hook in and got a 4 ft gar and he goes thats the biggest walleye i have ever seen.:smile2::smile2::smile2:

The iowa stare record for a gar is 17 lbs for a long nose and like 4 for a shortnose..you surpassed that!!!

I caught one years ago when I was a little kid fishing at a local pay lake. Caught 'em on a minnow, of course being a little guy i thought it was "omg a sword fish!" :eek:oooh: haha.

Jody, you are braver than I am; not sure I would want a gar that big in the boat with me

    Nice catch though...
