Gar for bait....

    Has anyone used gar steaks for bait. Sure would like to find a use for these ugly things.:smile2::wink:

    Why not just let em go?
    Having said that, I do know a few old guys who swear by gar meat for their trot lines...W

    It would be nice if they made good bait. I doubt it though, I have never read anything on here that mentions it

    It would be nice if they were good for something. They can mess up a fishing trip. I've seen buzzards that wouldn't even touch them. Since cats will eat about anything, Gar probably would work though for bait.

    Well I do let them go. I also have tried eating them, not bad. But they cost me bait and for that they should at least ante up a volunteer to help put catfish in the basket.:big_smile:

    First time for everything. I might try it and if it works, it might be the next miracle bait.:crazy:

    Dang, buzzards won't eat 'em?! Still, worth a try I think. Now having said that, I probably won't catch another one.:smile2::smile2:
