    Okay - I'm new - I'll bite -

If you gaff; it you had better release it into 375 degree oil otherwise you
    had better use a net!!

Eat catfish - they sell it at Safeway!!!

does anyone else besides me use the shotgun and some #4 buck when the fish gets within 20 feet of the boat and surfaces or am i a lone wolf on this one? LOL just a joke, i use a net all the time. the only time i use a gaff is if im tryin to land A) a big gar cuz they tend to tear my net up a little. or B) a carp, cuz they are to big for my net and im gunna cut em up for bait anyway.

Mostly try to bounce em in the boat. That doesn't mean they are small, its just the way we learned grown up here fishing on the salt boats, and off the rock jetties..... Used a dock stick with a combat knife tied to it to do in a shark last spring... had no net or a gaff big enough that day....

    JW,
I think you are on to something, that does sound like fun.
Just think there would be no more yelling pull.
Bummer is you would have to use steel shot.

I was watching "Gettin Close" with Lee and Tiffany once where they were shooting the carp instinctive style from seats on the back of a slow running boat. Looked like they had a blast doing it. It sure would help the reflexes a bit.

I used one back before I even knew what CPR was, we were keeping big fish. I didn't like the Gaff at all, it's hard to use without messing the fish up really bad. Our big landing net does a great job for us.

Although, a Gaff can be used a certain way to where it does not hurt the fish, you have to put it through thier mouth like a hook, it's kind of hard to do.

I'll stick to using the net.:smile2:

I will only use a gaff on carp when I am carp fishing to make my bait. If I am catfishing you better believe there is not a gaff around... I do have a shotgun in the truck for when things get going real bad....
