Ok, I was walking around the grocery store looking in the freezer section Because sometimes the hyvee here has food that they mark down and mark as fishingbait....I ran into a few bags of smelt Specially marked Catfish bait? I am wondering if any one else has used smelt as catfish bait..It is only $3 for 5lbs so I bough it all only 2 bags so im only out $6 if it dont work. Any imput/Stories are appreciated!!!!!!

Yep, we've used it, just chunk it up in your preferred catfish size tidbits. It works.

smelt make pretty good bait, I miss living up by the great lakes and going smelt dipping,and the fish fry and party afterword.

Should work pretty good around any of the lakes and rivers there. When I was younger my Grandfather would use smelt for catfish all the time. Those are some of my best memories, going to my Grandparents in Council Bluffs to go fishing.
