I would think they are similar to carp/shad type baits - very oily fish. Has anyone tried them as cut bait for cats?

Most people hate these fish, and they gut hook A LOT and end up dead. Wonder if they would be as good as shad, or bluegills.

    Thanks for any info!

I've caught flathead on live drum as well. I have caught channel on cut drum but shad is much better.

Yea, shad is more oily but how does it compare to say, bluegills? Drum (aka sheepshead) are oilier then bluegills.

drum don't strike me as an oily fish. Especially compared to shad. I would put them in the same catagory as gillls.
Fresh cut the work great for channels. (key word is fresh replace bait often).
    For Flats. They love them.
I just caught a flat the other night that went about 11lbs with a tail sticking out of its gullet. Tried to pull it out but it wouldn't budge. It was a decent size drum, probably going 2-3lbs.
I was using a bully for bait.
it was a site to see.
    thanks

Know a guy who caught an 80lb flat on one that was cut. I've used them jugging but have not landed anything that big. The cats caught were average.
