Here is a picture of a seven pound channel I caught this morning. I released him but kept 4 nice eating sized channels for the fish fry tonite.
I have caught bigger channels this year but this one was nice for all of the hot weather we have been having. I caught the smaller channels on an ultralight rig and they were as much fun on a ultralight rig as the bigger one was on heavier gear. I hope you all are catching your share.

I have some video tape of us turning loose some much bigger cats but this was a nice one for the 4th of July.
As to where I caught him, there are several local lakes, rivers, and ponds where similar channels can be caught and I could have caught him at any one of them. I did catch him on a rod and reel like I do all of my catfish these days but I am skilled at using trot lines and bank poles.
Catching smaller catfish on ultralites is fun and I often fish with light gear for the sport of it. But, sometimes a big one will have his way with me and the light stuff. I caught this channel using a regular heavy duty catfish rig.
