While cleaning up my fishing station I found a spool of Stren magnathin in 20 pound test. I never took it out the box, and its around 3 years old. Is it still good to use?

Hey Kyle, Is that the stuff that isn't round but kinda flat? If it is I didn't like it.

kyle, send it to me i will test it and let you know. I t should be good. Prespooled linemay sit on the shelf for years before it is use on a reel. the biggest enemies of line are sunlight and heat. Pull offa few yards and test it with a scale to see where it breds at. also try tying a knot to something and test the knot strenght.

As long as it has not been exposed to sunlight I would say it is OK. Never heard of it, just cut you a sample and test it out. That way you will know early before you line your reel and possibly lose a big fish.

Hey Guys, What was that stuff they came out with a few years ago that was a kinda flat line that was suppose to be so great for bait casting reels?

Give it a whirl if it stayed in the package and wasn't exposed to the sun are extreme heat you should be ok.

If it was kept out of the sun it should be okay. Magnathin was one of the best lines that Stren made before being purchased by Pure Fishing. That 20 lb magnathin is about the same diameter as 17 lb original stren.
