What's some stuff to eat you take with you on long trips? Got a few camping/fishing and 12+ hr fishing trips coming up. Obviously you'll need something substantial before you get done with a 12 hr fishing trip.

I usually starve in the boat!

Saw a $129.00 stainless steel grill that has a pretty small footprint at Cabela's. I am eyeballing that dude. Sure would be nice to grill some burgers and brats on the water.

Well, we mostly bring a grill and a couple of stoves with us. Meals run from burgers to full out meals like steak, baked potato, and grilled corn. During cold weather we'll fix a pot of chilli or stew. Some times we'll have a fish fry. Breakfast is usually eggs, bacon, sausage gravy and biscuits.

I'm a fan! I do grab stuff before I go sometimes. Like Nevet I have a subway down the street. I stuff jerky and granola in my bag. I made one of the cheesy backpacking alcohol stoves and a little pot. Crankin out some soup/ramen at midnight is sometimes great. Not only are you up late but you also miss a meal and it can make you even more tired and that isn't good for you on the ride home.

I want to get my hands on a coleman fold'n go grill. It looks small enough to be handy.

Your mind is the limit. Purchase a little personal cooler if you haven't already. I have a little one, and I can put 2 to 3 bottles of water, a sandwich, and a few apples or whatnot.

I try not to eat a whole lot while out (lite and simple), because I don't like digging a :poop: hole, or want to try from a boat.

Just something to remember

I keep bags of doritos, funyons(sp), and boxes of granola bars and other stuff handy in the boat or on the bank at all times and alway have a cooler with some water, sodas, and kool-aid or something iced down inside.
dry gods are stored in the fishing stuff year round till opened and consumed,I rarely cook when fishing, and I sure as heck won't stop fishing to go get food, fishing is serious business, and normal human needs be damned.... If you have access to some MRE's those are great to toss in the boat or truck and forget they are there till you are desperate for something, then they are good.

I keep a couple of mre's in the boat, cans of viennie sausages, individual packs of trail mix and small packs of cheese/peanut butter crackers. A long trip will require a big sandwich in the cooler with the water and cokes.

Guess I should have mentioned that our weekly fishing trips are from 20-24 hours long. They also take place all 52 weeks of the year. Staying out that long, a meal sure tastes good. Also in the winter when the temps are in the teens, snacks just don't cut it.

i do a little of both if i'm only going for a few hours grab some snacks and drinks and keep it moving. now if me and the old man are going on an extended trip or its really cold out then we're taking the warwagon and we'll stock it up with an electric cooler, coleman grill, and the works and do whatever burgers, dogs, soup, chilli, ect.

here's some pics of the warwagon ;)

Well, Grilling must be nice if your on a boat... but I'm a bank fisherman. When I stay overnight on a river or lake, I pack BBQ chips, granola bars, candy, sandwiches, and whatever other snacks I may need. Sweet & Salty are good for satisfying your taste buds, but make sure you get some carbohydrates so you feel full. I hike to my spots, so I try to take into account how much I need and how much I can carry. Beverages are heavy, and they don't last long. I usually just strap a gallon or half gallon water jug to my backpack (depending on how many hours I'll be out)

Also, if your not too prude about what you eat, try eating some of the local vegetation and marine life. I've been known to have campfires when I'm fishing channels, and sometimes I catch some crayfish and cook em over the fire for a tasty treat. Bluegills also are an OK snack from what I hear. .. and cooking crayfish and baitfish is quick and easy compared to cooking and cleaning a cat.

hope this helps (somewhat)

This gave me an idea for a thread..

I eat a big breakfast at home before I leave. Sometimes I'll even eat a SECOND BREAKFAST at Hardee's on the way. That way I don't worry about eating while fishing. But I always take 1 can of Libby's Vienna Sausage and 1 can of Beanee Weenies, and usually some crackers. Sometimes I take some Slim Jims, maybe an apple or banana and one sandwich, some chips and pepperoncini peppers.

Griz, you eat better while fishing than I do at home, LOL.

While I'm bank fishing with the kids or on long trips by myself, I'll cook. Usually we have deer burgers at night and eggs in the morning. We only camp fire cook so we try and keep it simple.

On the boat I don't eat a lot but on longer trips ya gotta bring something. Since I'm on a shoe-string budget I've found that a loaf of bread and some packaged lunch meat works best. As far as snacks go, I dont eat them.

When I'm at home and hungry I can eat a unnatural amount of food but on the other hand, I can starve it out easy. Been many times where I had some money and had to make the choice to eat or fish..........and you know I went fishin. Then here are a lot of times I'm just so into the fishing I just don't wanna eat.
