I read an article once about using heavy fly fishing rigs to go after big cats. I was wondering if an one has given it a try.

Thats why i picked up an 8 wt rod, reel and cheap flyline and backing... Still gotta get out to the field to practice casting with it but it should be a fun experience...

Anyone got ideas on flies to use?

Fly fishing is nice, but I never try one.

My grandad used to tell me about catching channel cats in the river using a fly rod. He'd use a small split shot sinker and sponge bait. Of course I had to give it a try, but I used a grasshopper on a single hook in a farm pond. Caught about a 8 pound channel on the fly rod. Took forever to get it in, so I never did it again.
