First off, I'd like to say hi to everybody being my first post on the site. I moved out to AZ from NY about 3 years ago, and have fished for everything from channels to trout to bass to pike. I'd like to start trying out flatheads as well.

Can anybody give me any advice of how to rig up either a bluegill, small carp or goldfish...along with what type of hooks you recommend?

    Thanks in advance.

Thanks Thorr....I saw that and tried to respond but couldn't. I think I have enough info to go out and try it.

One question about actually hooking the bait....if I hook it behind the top fin, should I go with the body....or from side to side through the fish?

The only advice that I can give you is what I have found fishing in Arizona.

    1. It depends on where you are fishing. Lakes are more common in Arizona, so hooking a Bluegill through the dorsal fin will work well, and it really doesn't matter whether it is to the front or the back of it. If you are river fishing, it is a must to hook a baitfish either in front of the dorsal fin or through the eyes or top lip of the baitfish. This will allow the baitfish to flow with the current and not kill it as fast.

    2. Depending on where you are in Arizona, another couple choices of bait are small carp, tilapia, and waterdogs (where found). Flatheads love to feast on all of these.
