In April 2006 I fell 10 feet and landed on my chest and injured my back. I went under the knife 4 days before christmas in 2006. It sounds like you are in about as bad a shape as I was. It's now been 1 1/2 years since the operation and I am back to 90-95% of what I was before the fall. The biggest thing is following doctors and therapist orders. When it came time to go get it done I couldn't wait, the pain and lack of mobility was taking it's toll. I was able to walk 100 yards at most. Going down the drive for the morning paper was a killer. Some days I couldn't make it that far. If not for family and really good freinds, hunting and fishing would not have happened that year.
It's not a fast recovery from back surgery but the results can be well worth it.

I hate to see anyone have surgery if there are any other options, but with the right surgeon they can do remarkable things. My wife had back surgery a few years back and she has never regretted it for one second. She was up and walking the same day.

Jack, I hope we can both get healed up soon. We DO have that fishing trip planned soon as were both released by the Dr's, not until though. By then, at least for me it'll be prime Flattie time, August or September!!! I hope you don't have to go under the knife like I am, once 90% sure and maybe even twice.....:sad2:......I'll find out July 16th when I see the Neurosurgeon.
As always you are in my Prayers!!!

before any of you go under the knife i would do some checking, 3 surgeons told me that was the only way to repair mine, a guy i used to work with had 3 surgeries and has not worked a day since, has been on permanent disability since, i checked around and found a pain specialist, i had injections of synthetic steroids into the discs and a lot of exercises, i am an auto mechanic and do lots of bending and pulling and lifting i have not missed a day of work for my back in over 5 years and havent had to see him in over a year, i would do some checking before i would go under the knife there are prolly other and safer things that can be done, just my 2 cents worth :eek:oooh:

Jack, I personally hope you get straightened around and get back out there fishing soon.. I know from talking to you the love you have for the sport, and the the respect for the flatheads! I look forward to meeting you some day, and even fishing together if possible... you are a professor to me by your posts... Especially, on the cutbait during mid-day in high sun you posted!!! Hope you get feeling better, and to see you soon!.......rollo
