All the James river people seem to be saying you can't catch flathead, bull! I have been catching them 4 days out of the week since the 9th of April. It's the pre-spawn period, bordering on the spawn. You're fishing the wrong places.

There is more to Pony Pasture then the one hole by the island. Look around, you'll find something

Who's saying you cant catch Flatties in the James? I've been catching them since last summer, even during the winter in December, jan, feb I caught them, I just got one friday night over 20lbs. My first fish in the James was a 32LB Flattie. I fished Pony Pasture 2 times and i wouldnt wade due to the snakes I saw in the water but i got fish after fish at the end down there just pass the big overhead bridge. Here's a pic of the one from Friday at Dutch Gap.

Yeah now that I have a kayak and more access to the River I'll find more holes and I'll be sure not to share where they may be.

I know there is a big hole up between the Hugunot bridge and the Willy bridge right in the middle where you can see both bridges. There is also another huge hole right after the golf coarse before the Blvd. bridge....so yes there are lots of holes.

We catch a lot of flatheads there in the summer, can't remember catching any in the winter though. The ones we catch are not very big though, I would say average 25 lbs would be my guesstimate. There are lots of them there and i'm sure there are some big ones to be caught.

What bridge?
at the walk thru at Hugenot, theres a trail right there that leads into the woods just follow it back to the bank, and theres a little cut where you can fish under some trees and a nice little log jam on the right. Me another foreign guy sat there and caught 12 in that one spot one day last year from 5-22LBs. As far as winter flatheads, i got those in the HWD in DG
