Me and Fshnman sampled the ample numbers of Chickamauga Dam Tailwater catfish today. We had a blast. I guess everbody was pretty fished out from yesterday so we pretty much had the place to ourselves until way later in the morning. And the threadfin are still in there THICK! Pics below of a couple of the better cats Fshnman put the hurt on. The biggest one hit the 20 lb. mark. On light spinning tackle, it was a battle royale!

Using cut bait... threadfin shad which are PLENTIFUL right now. Fishing various holes immediately beneath the dam and others in river channel downriver. Weight depends upon depth and amount of hydro generation... the less weight the better and lightest tackle possible. In dead water I'll use nothing more than a quarter-ounce split shot. Sometimes no weight, just let cut shad drift down toward bottom slowly. Takes some patience but the fish really like to see a natural "drifting" presentation. Most fish taken on spinning tackle, 12 lb. test with a 20 lb. shock leader. Either Kahle hooks or Daiichi Wide Gap Circles.
