Hey bros heading out to fish the Wabash river where it flows into the J. Roushe Res. tommorow morn. Gonna grab some creek chubs! Hopefully we'll get elbow deep into them, will let you all know how we did!:0a22:

Just got back a little while ago, we got 4 channels and was a very slow bite, they would bite but just nip at it, no commitment, we'll give it a few more weeks then shoot up there again.:0a17:

    Thanks for the report Doug.

Have you guys ever tried a quick-strike rig like walleye anglers use when those channels are hitting short? Just curious...

tiny trebles with DK's works on those nippers! a lil slack line helps them get it in too.

A quick strike rig is basically a second hook (usually a treble tied off to your primary hook. So, if you were fishing chubs you would hook the primary hook maybe through the lips and then the secondary treble hook would be hooked in the chubs tail. Walleye anglers use it with a minnow on a jig head trailed with a small treble. It's real popular with pike anglers too -- but it seems like they use dead suckers or with the attached pic, a herring/smelt. Here's a couple pics...

The bite was very slow at times non exsistance. The water was dropping, 2ft in last 2 days. The current was strong in the channel and very strong in back end of river. It took a 3oz no roll sinker to keep the bait on the bottom. We fished shallow, mid and deep depths. Had better luck in current and in the channel. Think this was due to water dropping. Water was muddy but temp was was on the rise all day. The fish would not hit a whole chub only cut bait. We caught 4 fish total all day. Didnt mark much bait fish and didnt see much fish actitivty anywhere. We are going back in a few weeks hopefully the water will be better by then.
