    1. What is the largest freshwater fish in the US?
Although some of our friends in Texas will swear it is wrong, the White Sturgeon (Acipenser transmontanus) is the largest species of freshwater fish. It has been known to reach 20' in length and 2000 lbs.in weight - although specimens of this size have not been recorded in recent years.

    2. What is the 2nd largest freshwater fish in the US?
Texas wins this time. Is is indeed the Alligator Gar (Atractosteus spatula). It can grow to sizes of over 8ft in length and over 300lbs.

    3. How big is the largest striped bass ever recorded ?
The largest striped bass ever recorded was a 125 pound female from North Carolina, 1891.

    4. Which one is the only American fish that lives most of its life in freshwater and migrates to the ocean to spawn ?
That would be the American eel (Anguilla rostrata) - Mature eels from around the world, including the American eel, return to the Sargasso Sea to spawn and then die. The Sargasso Sea is an area of calm water northeast of the West Indies. The eels begin to migrate in the fall and arrive at the Sargasso Sea in February when spawning occurs. The breeding extends into the summer months, and the adult American eels then die after spawning.

    5. How many species of salmon can be found in Alaska?
5 species - Chum, King, Red, Silver, and Pink salmon.
