Me and Big Sam were off work so we decided to go fishing. It was a terrible day weather wise and the wind was blowing really strong out of the east with the temp's hovering in the low 30's all day. It sleeted and rained off and on til we decided we had had enough and quit about 1:00 p.m. The water temp's have dropped back to 40 degrees. We met at the ramp at daylight and decided it was just to rough to get out on the lake so we drug the 24 ft. slime mobile up river and done some river fishing on the Arkansas river. We just manage 4 fish total because we were just having to duck out of the wind to even fish in the river. We had to run pretty slow even in the river the front of the pontoon was trying to dip into the waves and freezing onto the front deck. We kept two eaters and released 2 over 10 lbs. One was 32.74 lbs. and one was 14 lbs.

This was the first fish of the day and my PB for 2008, 32.74 lbs.

I'll take low 30's and wind any day just to get on the liquid water and do some fishing.
Looks like you still had a good day of fishing, all things considered.
Nothing beats a warm meal from the fresh catch.

It was nasty out on that one:smile2::tounge_out: Nice fish Johnny:boss: Of course there was fish hitting the rest of my poles while i recieved specific instructions on how to operate, aim and shoot his new-fangled camera:tounge_out: Of course his batteries were dead to start with but somehow he managed to have 15-extra sets:wink: I did pretty good with the camera(notice his NEW avatar):smile2: Johnny i wasn't hamming it up on that picture i was suffering from frost-bite and sleet in my eyes!!!!:tounge_out::wink: But it has been a pattern for many moons on Kerr that the nastier the weather the better the fish bite:wink:

That's pretty hardcore of you, Johnny.

You could have been like me and stayed home and caught zero fish!

    Thank you for sharing.

    Grilled Catfish Over Mixed Greens
    Ingredients
    4 Catfish Fillets
    1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
    1 ½ T balsamic vinegar
    3 tsp. Salt
    ½ tsp. Black pepper
4 cups mixed salad greens, washed and dried
4 ounces white mushrooms, thinly sliced

    Directions

Place fillets on a shallow plate. Mix olive oil, vinegar, tarragon, salt and pepper in a small bowl until well blended. Pour two-thirds of the marinade over the catfish. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes to marinate. Reserve the remaining marinade to use as salad dressing. Prepare a grill or preheat the broiler to 500 degrees F. Place catfish fillets on an oiled grill rack or broiler pan rack. Grill or broil 4 inches from the heat source for 2 to 3 minutes on each side or until fish flakes easily. Remove and allow to cool slightly.... serve warm. Toss salad greens, mushrooms and the reserved marinade in a large bowl. Top with catfish.

The above is the recipe. We didn’t have any mixed greens so we made our own salad. Also instead of cooking on the grill or broiler we cooked it on a George Forman grill for 3 minutes at the maximum temperature of 425 F.

Well one thing for sure you all got tougher skin than I do. Shoot your lucky to get me to walk down to the mailbox whens it's cold out.
I'd like to go fishin but unless you go right below the dams the river in my area looks more like a ice skating rink.Nothing but ice.:sad2: You guys are lucky you can still get out on your rivers.
Good looking fish in the Avaitor Johnny. Looks like you all are off to a good start. Big Sam looks like you was having fun out there ,reeling in that fish even if you was froze solid.:eek:oooh::roll_eyes:

Ya'll be a lot tougher than me, I had planned to go last Sunday, got up and found out a record setting reading of 19 degrees. In Central Texas we ain't suppose to get them kinda temps. I passed on the trip. Congrats on the good fish.

Whoa, thats some COLD fishing, especially the way the wind blows on Kerr Lake (or Oklahoma in general).

You and Big Sam get the Big Cahones award for the day!:smile2:
