Fishing setups for shallow lakes

    hey ya all

    im goin to a small lake this weekend,. water level is only about 5ft all the way around with 14ft at the dam. i was wondering what setups would be good in this type of lake and what ya all think. my dad catchs bass and gill here but i know there are some cats in it too.

    I have had luck not using any weight at all and tying the hook directly to the main line, no swivel or anything. Usually can get pretty good distance if you use a big treble and big bait. Also try casting horizontally along shoreline about 2-3 feet out, with bail open. Go slay them kitties!

    If it's that shallow, you might try to use a slipfloat rig and suspend the bait about 1'-2' off the bottom. Start with big nightcrawlers to catch some 'gills and then cut them up and use them for bait.
