I do that occassionally when I just want to get out of the cabin. The rod I always seem to grab is one of my Quantum Big Cat Medium Action rods with a Pflueger Trion 66 Round baitcaster on it. Love that rig!

Well, I guess you are talking about freshwater fishing.

So, if I was just limited to one rod, for a variety of fishing situations. And, the main intent was to just catch "any" fish. I would opt for one of my G Loomis, drop shot rods (spinning), 6' 10" (I think it is). It is comfortable to cast all day, it is light in the tip, but has a lot of backbone. And, I have handled fish up to around 10 pounds on it with no problem, on 6 and 8 pound line.
