This was something I didn't intend to do. I went fishing for panfish, and got a couple of hits, then wham!.My bobber went under and was reeling it in for all it was worth.I thought I had a big bass on the end of my line, but to my surprise,it was a 2 lb.channel cat! The reason I posted to see how many of you all fish for them that way.I wanting to go to Prarie Grove lake to fish for bluegills,as well as small channel catfish. The rules of the lake is pretty strict,no liver or bloodbait,or dead bait.Must use live bait or artifical baits only.I don't want to take on a monster channel cat,but 2-3 lbs is more to my liking. Is this a good idea? I really like the fight it gave me today.

one time I was at Camp Robinson at lake Jewlette and I was fishing for brim on my play pole. Caught a 6 lb channel on a tiny I mean tiny brim hook with a bitty piece of worm. They get hungry for different stuff so go for it. Seem folks catch cats on soap to hotdogs whatever....

Nothing better than to catch a channel on a U.L . I use a 4 foot finwick rated for 2#-6# test and a small Shimano reel rated the same, And i've caught some pretty nice size channel's on it ,But use Quality line to get the job done.

I've heard before about people catching channels on crickets, but now I'm a believer.I've heard about that from folks that caught them from Prarie Grove lake. The lake is an excellent sorce of big brims, which is why I want to go there. But since I caught a channel cat on a ultra light and a cricket,I have different reasons for going there.

Last year Linda Faye and I took our grand daughter on the boat in piney bay she was fishing with a little pole for perch well she got tired and layed down in the boat for a nap so I layed the pole down it had a little worm on it so I left it a little in the water and in a little bit wham the pole almost went in the water I grabbed it and finally got a 2 or 3 lb flatherd in she slept thorugh the whole thing. It is the only flathead thats been in the boat.Shep

if their in the area channels will bite most any thing.in late summer when those big yellow grass hoppers are abundant you can go out and catch them in early morning and put them in your cricket box.they make real good big bream and channel cat baits to.
