First turtle of the year

    I was fishing for crappie yesterday when I got to watch a 25 pounder emerge from the mud right next to me. I didn't catch many crappie, but that ol' snapper will sure taste good in a week or two! I will try to post a photo later today.

    He hasn't had anything to eat in 4 or 5 months, he's a little ganted up!!!!!:smile2:

    Nice one! Is it legal to keep them? They are protected in Georgia.

    Yeah, season is open all year except from April 1st to the second week in June.

    Probably the simplest way is to buy some 8/0 J-hooks and tie them to the end of a section of 80 pound braid or chalkline. Tie the other end to a limb that is 1-1/2" -4" in diameter that will bend when pulled on. Bait with strips of cut carp or smaller fish heads. Also neck roast from a deer or beef works good. Check them twice a day.
