I had about an hour to burn Wednesday (70 degrees) between work and an evening staff meeting. We headed to a nearby lake to try to catch a few crappie. We were fishing one of the lake's 3 inlet streams, with crappie jigs and ultra-lites. My son's bobber went under and he yells, "dad I gotta big one!" I went over to help him out and to my surprise, he'd hooked into a 2lb. bass. I usually C&R bass, but he really wanted to bring it home to feed the family, so I went to the stringer with him. I no more then got the fish strung up when the boy started yelling again. "I got another big one dad, hurry! He's pulling me in!":smile2: I got back over to him and yanked the fish out when he got it near the shore. He caught another bass, but this one was 18" long and just shy of 4lbs. What a great start to the fishing season! I hope our luck follows us when we start trying to catch cats in a month or so! I'm trying to upload some pics, but I'm not having any luck. Probably not sized correctly or something. If I figure out how to post them I will do so later in the thread. Good luck to everyone and see ya at the gathering!

It is a wonderful thing to help a youngster hook up with a fish! I remember
watching my second son Orren land an eight pound flathead out of the
Kansas River. He was around nine years old and fought that critter with a
pump and reel style that looked like he was salt water fishing. All I had to
do was sit back and watch until he got it to the bank when we both
tackled the cat and drug him onto land. Wish I could find that picture.

Please post that picture if you find it! I love seeing the look on the faces of the future of our tradition when they've had a successful trip outdoors. Doesn't matter whether you are into fishing or hunting or both; the youth are the future of our tradition.

I still can't seem to post those pics:confused2:
