I started to fish exclusively for Flatties towards the end of last season. Last night out was my first excursion of the season and I caught my first Flathead ever. (Well, I caught a 35lb 8 years ago, but I wasn't fishing for Flatts, it was an accident so I dont' count it.) Caught it on a 4" gill, 9/0 King Kahle hook, Abu Garcia Big Game 9000, 40 lb Big Game mono. 57lbs. 50" long. 32" around. It seemed heavier, I hope the scales were right. I can't believe it! I haven't been to sleep since yesterday a 6am. What a night. One I will surely have a hard time topping. I am so excited I just don't know what to say. I would have never thought this would be my first. Thanks for all the good info. CPR too. The best part is my wife and daughter were with me to see it. I'm thinking of taking all the measurements and pics to a taxidermist to see if he can replicate it for me - I know, silly. Anyone know of someone that does this or has anyone had this done? Maybe I will tell the whole story of how it went down after I get some sleep.
